Despite the area's typical freezing temperatures, the London City Music Theatre managed to produce their first sold-out show on Saturday, December 6. The 600-seat venue, filled with audience members who varied in age, was more appealing than what the average person would presume. With a unique theatrical stage, a dynamic sound system and an up close and personal seating arrangement, the concert turned out to be extremely intimate.
Heavily influenced by the extraordinary sir Paul McCartney, the quintet opened with a number of popular Wings' songs including “Band on the Run” and “Hell on Wheels”. Backed by nostalgic guitar riffs, The McCartney Years brought fans back to a time when Wings rocked the mid-70s'. With excellent chemistry and astounding stage presence, the musical act's performance enticed the audience song by song, leaving them anticipated for the second half of the show.
After the intermission, singer Yuri George shocked the audience by opening with an acoustic set that included songs such as “Eleanor Rigby” and “Black Bird”. The surprising change in musical direction left fans wondering if there were more Beatles' songs in store. For the die-hard fans in the crowd, that was just the case. The McCartney years increased the tempo with danceable tracks like “Get Back”, “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “I Saw Her Standing There”. With a delightful bundle of energy in the air, the atmosphere changed as fans got out of their seats and started to dance the night away.
Aside from the group's arousing sound, Yuri's voice also stood out in several performances. The singer's exceptional talent was almost inseparable to the individual who they acknowledged throughout the night. His vocal range shocked audience members and convinced them to raise the invisible applause meter to a higher level after each song. After closing with hit numbers such as “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude”, the crowd pleaded with the band, hoping they would stay and perform until sunrise.
No one individual can really deny the musical magic The McCartney Years created during their three-hour set. Their amazing chemistry and respectable choice of songs showed local entertainment fans that the London City Music Theatre is a dynamic venue that's here to stay.
