"The original men in Black are back and they!re on a mission! The HIT musical comedy “I'M A SOULMAN!” is coming to the LONDON CITY MUSIC THEATRE (Western Fair Grounds) July 24th to August 9th, 2009. This show features an international cast of singers, dancers and musicians who have been touring and performing for the past 5 years including extended runs in BERLIN, ESSEN, ZURICH, MALLORCA, and HONOLULU plus shorter runs and private performances in HAMBURG, VIENNA, DALLAS, and CHICAGO.
"So why London Ontario you may ask? Well, there is a hometown connection! Two of the featured performers, brothers Geoff & Chris Dahl, originate from the Forest City and after what seems to have been a lifetime on the road, are finally performing in their hometown of.... London Ontario!
"The brothers, both musicians and singers began their musical careers in the 80's moving through
many musical genres including pop, rock, R & B, soul, and blues. Geoff was part of the 80's alternative
recording act BLACK AVALON, performed with JUNO award winning country singer CASSANDRA VASIK,
and won a FACTOR award to record an album with his own project RED RAIN. Chris performed with Indy
recording artists LORRAINE FIELDS, The UPTOWN BLUES Band, and The RICK SPYDER Band.
"In what was part survival and part calculated risk in a changing live music environment, the
brothers put their singing/songwriting careers to the side to join the wave of tribute shows that were
sweeping through the music scene in the early 90's. The demand for tribute acts in both clubs and the
casino/corporate event markets were making it almost impossible to make a living as a small scale
recording act or Top 40 cover band. Other musicians that they knew had already made the jump to successful tribute artist and so the boys could hear the sound of opportunity knocking.
"Following an impromptu Halloween performance while working together in the same band, the
brothers embarked on a journey that would lead around the world. Spain, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, all over USA and Canada including performances for the Department of Defence of Canada entertaining troops of every country (Special thanks to all of them!) in war zones and remote locations around the world from the Persian Gulf to Bosnia, Croatia to Goose Bay and Alert, Canada (The northernmost inhabited place in the world! Almost the North Pole!)
"The fact that brother Geoff had been adding to his repertoire of instruments for years, and had become a formidable harmonica wizard, and brother Chris excelled as a vocalist in the R&B genre (not to mention having a four octave range), coupled with both brothers! abilities as entertaining front men made it clear the obvious act for two musician brothers to pay tribute to was, of course, two brothers who were musicians... Jake & Elwood...THE BLUES BROTHERS!
"First step on their journey was to join the cast of the Las Vegas LEGENDS IN CONCERT style
show LEGENDS ALIVE! This in turn brought them to the attention of the Department of Defence and expanded their international reputation. Their continued exposure brought them in touch with worldwide show producer Bernhard Kurz. Bernhard Kurz was well known in musical circles for bringing heavyweight musicals like STARLIGHT EXPRESS, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, SHAKESPEARE & ROCK'N'ROLL and CATS to Europe. He has won numerous Producer Of The Year awards In Las Vegas and has owned and been producing the long running STARS IN CONCERT show in Berlin since May 1997.
"Based on their performances at home in Canada under the name DA BLOOZE Bros., Geoff and
Chris began working with Mr. Kurz on a new project. Mr. Kurz began assembling a cast for a new show
called I'M A SOULMAN! With Da BLOOZE Bros in the lead roles, the show isn't simply a tribute to the
R&B icons, It's a concert of great music with an incredible band, improvisational comedy, and heavy
audience interaction featuring the music of The Blues Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Elvis, The
Drifters, James Brown, Henry Mancini, Motown and more... Add to that, world class dancers from Spain,
Germany and France, a dazzling light and video show and you have a great entertainment experience.
